Paz na Mídia analyzed 2.013 news reports shown by the four major national news programs in May and found out that 64% of the time was dedicated to negative subjects (a total of 26 hours, or an average of about an hour per day). Violence was displayed in 22% of the time (8h50’, an average of 25 minutes per day). Positive news occupied 8% of the time (3h09’, an average of 5 minutes per day). Violent and negative subjects added up to 86% of the time displayed on news programs. All this time viewers submitted themselves to images and informations the provoked fear, anger, insecurity, impotence an distress. It’s understandable why Brazil is one of the countries with the highest rates of depression, anxiety and the consumption of psychotropics and alcohol. The common media is not thinking properly about the diversity of life. Is a theme for reflection and change of habits.
