Paz na Mídia analyzed 2.215 news reports shown by the four major national news programs in January 2020 and found out that 56% of the time was dedicated to negative subjects (42h49’). Violence was displayed in 22% of the time (17h03’). Positive news occupied 14% of the time (10h57’). Violent and negative subjects added up to 78% of the time displayed on news programs. These images shown, and the information given induces feelings of anger, distress, insecurity and fear. They are triggers to the development of psychological diseases and the consumption of psychotropics and alcohol. We need to create a thinking about the way media portrays violence in an unfaithful and unbalanced way in its news.
